College to hold first December Commencement

For the first time in history, Northwest Mississippi Community College will hold fall commencement exercises on Monday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. in Howard Coliseum on the Senatobia campus for Associate of Arts degree candidates, Career Certificates, Technical Certificates, and Associate of Applied Science degree candidates.

The college’s 104th Commencement will be live streamed on the college’s YouTube channel, which can be found at

Doors will open at 9 a.m., and guests are encouraged to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the event. Guests should be inside the coliseum and seated as soon as possible. Once the coliseum reaches capacity, no one will be allowed inside in accordance with local fire code, according to Zabe Davis, chief of Campus Police. Overflow seating will be available in the Haraway Center, located across the street from the coliseum, where guests may view the live stream.

Balloons, signs and noise makers are not permitted, and guests are asked to hold applause until all of the graduates’ names have been called.  To help expedite traffic to and from the ceremonies, Davis requests visitors use the Alumni Drive entrance to campus off Wilson Drive (Highway 4 bypass).

Haley Fisackerly, president and CEO of Entergy Mississippi, will be the commencement speaker.

Fisackerly, a native of Columbus, holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mississippi State University and a master’s degree in public policy administration from George Washington University. He served for several years on the staff of U.S. Senator Thad Cochran prior to joining Entergy at its Washington, D.C. office in 1995.

He returned to Mississippi in June 2002 as Entergy Mississippi’s vice president of customer operations. In 2007, he began a year at Entergy Nuclear as the vice president of governmental and regulatory affairs.
